MECHANISM OF ACTION

  • Amlodipine: It is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes vascular smooth muscles thereby widening the arteries due to which there is increased blood flow and lowered blood pressure.
  • Telmisartan: Telmisartan is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker binds to the AT1 angiotensin II receptor, this blockage stops the narrowing of the blood vessels which relaxes and widens arterial walls to improve blood flow efficiency eventually lowering blood pressure.
  • Hydrochlorothiazide: It is a thiazide diuretic that prompts the kidneys to eliminate excess sodium and water, reducing the total fluid volume the heart must pump.

  • Hypertension (lower blood pressure)
  • Stroke Prevention
  • Cardiovascular Risk Management

INTERACTIONS

Medication Interactions

  • NSAIDs: Can reduce the blood pressure-lowering efficacy of Amlodipine, Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide tablets and increase the risk of worsening kidney function.
  • Potassium Supplements & Spironolactone: Concurrent use can lead to hyperkalemia (dangerously high potassium levels in the blood).
  • Lithium: Amlodipine, Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide tablets can decrease the elimination of lithium, leading to toxic accumulation.
  • Other Blood Pressure Drugs & CNS Depressants: Combining with extra antihypertensives or sedatives/alcohol can cause severe drops in blood pressure, especially when standing up.
  • Antidiabetic Drugs (Metformin, Insulin): Blood glucose levels may be altered, requiring dose adjustments.

Food and Drink Interactions

  • Grapefruit Juice: Avoid consuming grapefruit or its juice, as it increases the absorption and concentration of amlodipine in your system, risking excessive hypotension.
  • Alcohol: May amplify dizziness and blood pressure-lowering side effects.
  • High-Potassium Foods: Salt substitutes or excessive potassium-rich foods should be monitored or avoided to prevent hyperkalemia.

PRECAUTIONS & WARNINGS

  • Avoid Amlodipine, Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide tablets if allergic to amlodipine, telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide as it can lead to severe side effects.
  • This medication should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

CONCLUSION

Amlodipine, Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide tablets offers a comprehensive, triple-action solution for hypertension that remains uncontrolled on dual therapy, combining vasodilation, angiotensin II receptor blockade, and diuresis to deliver stronger and more consistent blood pressure control than two-drug regimens alone. It is not only about blood pressure control but it also provides broader cardiovascular and renal protection, which makes it a good option for patients with more resistant or complex hypertension. Amlodipine, Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide tablets are for use only under close supervision of a physician with regular monitoring of kidney function, electrolyte levels, and blood pressure response for the safe and effective long-term treatment.
